A combination of CPVC, Copper, and residential sprinkler heads that is constantly charged with water and ready for activation. The most common type of system for homes.
Usually a “standpipe” system where steel, copper, and commercial sprinkler heads are charged with water and ready for activation. Very common for most businesses.
Commonly used in data rooms and businesses where temperatures might cause freezing in the pipes throughout the year.
Often used in highly combustible environments, but not a common application.
Sprinkler systems are the first line of defense in
the event of a fire at a home or business. A
modern sprinkler system is able to quickly and
efficiently provide fire suppression to your
building, reducing heat, flames and smoke during
a fire situation. It’s the best way to protect life and
property in the event of fire.
The State of California requires automatic fire sprinklers in all newly constructed homes. In California, an average of 60 people die in 1 or 2 family dwelling fires every year. Fire suppression systems exist to save lives – allowing adequate time for families to escape a burning house.
While this answer is always frustrating, it varies by structure. It is never as simple as figuring per square foot or room. Fire Sprinkler designs are strictly created to ensure coverage specific to each building – factoring in construction, space, building design, obstructions, fixtures, and even slope and pitch of ceilings. Contrary to popular belief, the sprinklers aren’t triggered by smoke. There is a fusible link or a quartzoid bulb contained in the sprinkler head. When there is a fire, the HEAT from the fire melts the link or expands the liquid in this frangible bulb. The water is released when either the link separates as a result of the temperature, or when the liquid in the bulb expands to the point where it actually bursts the bulb.
They also don’t ALL go off at the same time! If a fire happens, and one sprinkler triggers due to heat — only THAT sprinkler will go off. Many people think having fire sprinklers will “ruin” their whole house if a small fire happens because of a “deluge” of water — but only the head directly affected by the heat of that fire will react.
